The signing authority is an authorized person who can sign a tax return on behalf of the company. A signing authority can be an employee or a stakeholder of a company or a third-party tax preparer. A tax return will not be considered complete unless signed by the signing authority.

A third-party tax preparer needs to have a power of attorney signed with the business to file and sign tax returns on behalf of the business.
