The IRS Form 2290 is a tax form used to calculate and pay the tax amount for the heavy vehicles with a taxable weight of 55,000 pounds or more that operate on public highways. Anyone registering heavy motor vehicles under their name must file Form 2290 and pay taxes to the IRS every year. This tax is considered a Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT). The HVUT is calculated based on the First Use Month (FUM) of the vehicle and the vehicle category.
