The deadline to file Form 2290 is the last day of the month following the First Used Month (FUM) of the vehicle. For truckers who continue using the same truck as the previous year, the deadline is August 31, 2023.

The tax period for Form 2290 runs from July 1 of the current year to June 30 of the following year. For example, the current tax year starts on July 1, 2023, and ends on June 30, 2024.

4. When is my 2290 tax payment due?

Your Form 2290 HVUT payment will be due on the same day as your Form 2290 return filing deadline. Typically, the deadline to pay 2290 taxes is on or before August 31, 2023, for the 2023-24 tax year.

If you’re not filing at the start of the tax year, the deadline to file your Form 2290 and pay your HVUT is the last day of the month following the First Used Month (FUM) of your vehicle during the tax period. For example, if you first operate your truck on public highways in September 2023, you must file your Form 2290 and pay your HVUT by October 31, 2023.

It is a unique 9-digit number assigned to every business in the US. If you don’t have an EIN, you must apply for one. Click here to apply online, or contact 1-800-829-4933.

Please be informed that your Social Security Number (SSN) is not your EIN. You cannot use your SSN when you are filing Form 2290.
