Why does ExpressTruckTax ask if my truck is a logging vehicle?

Applicable To
Form 2290 Form 8849 Amendments

We ask it because if your vehicle is used exclusively for logging, you are eligible for lower tax rates.

Your heavy use vehicle is considered a logging vehicle by the IRS if it is used exclusively for the transportation of products like timber harvested from the forested site, or if it transports only the products collected from forested sites and delivered to other forested locations. Additionally, your vehicle must be registered as a logging vehicle in your respective state.

Like other heavy vehicles, your Form 2290 due date will be the last day of the month following the first month used on public highways. For example, if you use your logging vehicle in March for the first time, your Form 2290 will be due by April 30. Then you will need to renew your Form 2290 by August 31 annually.
