What do you mean by New EIN?

Applicable To
Form 2290 Form 8849 Amendments

A business requires a new Employer Identification Number (EIN) if there is a change in the structure or ownership. If you apply for an EIN, it takes up to 10 days for the new EIN to become active.

Even if you provide the correct business information while filing your return, the IRS will reject your return if there is a mismatch between the business name and the EIN.

If your return gets rejected because your EIN hasn't become active yet, you can check the estimated date of your EIN activation with ExpressGuarantee. We will also send you a reminder on that estimated date through email to retransmit your return.

You can retransmit a rejected return any number of times for free. If there is a change in your business name or business address, you are not required to apply for a new EIN.
