Applicable To
Form 2290 Form 8849 Amendments

If you report your vehicle as a suspended vehicle in Form 2290 and the vehicle crosses 5000 miles within the tax year, an amendment must be filed to report this information to the IRS. The HVUT for the remainder of the tax year should also be paid for the vehicle as it is now considered a taxable vehicle by the IRS.

Here's how you can file Mileage Exceeded amendment using ExpressTruckTax:

1. Log in to your account.
2. On your dashboard, click "Mileage Exceeded" under the "Form 2290 Amendment".
3. Choose whether if you had filed your original return with ExpressTruckTax.

If the original return was filed with ExpressTruckTax

1. Select the return with the vehicle that exceeded the mileage limit.
2. Choose the month in which the mileage exceeded the threshold.
3. The total tax amount will be calculated automatically.
4. Review the summary of the return and transmit it to the IRS.

If the original return was filed elsewhere

1. Choose the appropriate tax year, first used month, and the month in which the mileage limit exceeded.
2. Provide the required vehicle information.
3. The total tax amount will be calculated automatically.
4. Review the summary of the return and transmit it to the IRS.
