Applicable To
Form 2290 Form 8849 Amendments

The name control is an alphabetic or numerical sequence issued by the IRS when you obtain an Employer Identification Number. A name control cannot be more than four characters. The only special characters that can be used in a name control are "&" and "-", and there shouldn't be spaces/blanks in a name control. Your Doing Business As (DBA) name will not be used in your name control.

You can find the name control of your business on your Form CP-575, which the IRS sends for the confirmation of your EIN. If you want to know your name control from the IRS, you can contact the IRS Business & Specialty Line at 800-829-4933.
