Applicable To
Form 2290 Form 8849 Amendments

If the taxable gross weight of your vehicle increases within the tax year and falls into a new weight category, you must file a Form 2290 amendment to report the new weight category to the IRS. You might be subjected to an additional tax due because of the increase in the weight category.

For example, if the maximum load of your vehicle increases from 60,000 lbs to 80,000 lbs, you would need to file an HVUT Form 2290 Amendment with the increased weight category.
